SAMA launches a research support program in Islamic finance

RIYAD – The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) announces the launch of the Islamic Finance Research Support Program to support researchers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and abroad, and to advance and benefit from scientific research.

SAMA stressed that the program will strengthen the leading role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Islamic finance sector globally and confirm SAMA’s continued efforts and determination to integrate into the research system in within the framework of its social responsibility obligations and its central role in the field.

In addition, the program will help achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which improves Saudi Arabia’s knowledge position. On the other hand, the program will give researchers the opportunity to develop and provide solutions and scientific contributions to advance the qualitative development of Islamic finance.

The program covers a number of research areas including: Islamic finance sectors; financial technologies (FinTech) in the Islamic finance sector; Sharia regulations, standards and governance; endowments sector; capital markets and investment funds; and other areas related to the Islamic finance sector.

The program offers two streams to researchers in Saudi Arabia and abroad. Track I includes entry-level researchers preparing their final theses for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. The program will provide these researchers with the necessary support to complete and improve the quality of their articles. These researchers can only participate on an individual basis.

Track II includes professional researchers who have research experience in Islamic finance and have previously published articles in international journals. These researchers can participate in the program as individuals or as members of a joint research team including a SAMA researcher.

He noted that each research paper selected in Track I will earn a cash award of SR 20,000, and each research paper selected in Track II will earn a cash award of SR 40,000. In addition, a cash prize of SR 100,000 will be awarded to the top two winning research papers. Each item will earn SR 50,000.

The program covers a number of research areas including: Islamic finance, Islamic banking, Islamic insurance, banking risk management, financial technologies (FinTech) in the Islamic finance sector, governance of Sharia law and other areas related to the Islamic finance industry.

After translation of the selected research articles, cash prizes will be awarded to the top 20 winning articles by decision of the review committee. The top 10 items will win a cash prize of SR 10,000 each, and the remaining 10 will win a cash prize of SR 5,000 each. – SPA
